T3.1 New downscaling: configuration and simulation
A 30 km regional model, HYCOM-CICE-ECOSMO, for the North Atlantic and Arctic will be set up with boundary conditions from the historical and SSP5-8.5 simulation of NorESM2-MM SE20. After generating forcing/boundary conditions, we will test the new model with physics only first, evaluate the results and make necessary adjustments. Subsequently, we will implement the ECOSMO biogeochemistry with the new parameters from T1.2, including evaluation and adjustment. Finally, we will perform the full simulation from 1950 until 2100 and validate the results against observations.
T3.2. Drivers of O2/OHC trends in a water-mass framework (M30-M36)
We will apply the methodology as established in T2.1 to the output of the Regional Models participating in O2Ocean, created in T3.1 and T3.5. Results from T3.2 will be published in D4.1.
T3.3. High latitude North Atlantic circulation changes and its impact on O2 (M30-M38)
We will apply the methodology as established in T2.2 to the output of the Regional Models participating in O2Ocean, created in T3.1 and T3.5. Results from T3.3 will be published in D4.2.
T3.4. Impact of northward heat transport on Nordic Seas OHC (M19-M40)
We will apply the methodology as established in T2.3 to the output of one of the Regional Models participating in O2Ocean. Results from T3.4 will be published in D4.2.
T3.5. Establish new O2 bio-parameters in regional model NORWECOM (M12-M30)
The improved O2 bio-parameterization from T1.2 will be implemented and tested in a 3D regional model, NORWECOM.E2E. The model with the new parameterization will be used to simulate the historical scenario and 3 different future emissions scenarios (SSP5-8.5, SSP2-4.5, SSP1-2.6). The model results will be validated against observations such as the BGC-Argo data used in T1.2. Results from T3.5 will be published in D4.3.
